The Alachua County Library District (ACLD) Foundation is a support group for the Alachua County Library District.   The Foundation was incorporated in 1989 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

Mission Statement:  provide supplemental funding to the library with an emphasis on long-term support and planned giving.

Vision Statement:  enhance the Alachua County Library District's ability to enrich the lives of everyone in our community.

Our goal statements to support the Mission and Vision are:

increasing the community's understanding of the Foundation and its mission.

increasing financial support for the Foundation.

strengthening internal understanding of the Foundation by its Board and Associates.

Although tax revenues support the library's on-going operations — core collections, staffing, and maintenance of equipment — supplemental funding is needed to ensure the library's continual stability.

The Foundation's major goal is to manage and continue to build our endowment that will provide funds for the Library District on an annual basis.  In March of 2012, the Foundation contributed $25,000 from interest earned on the Endowment to the Library District to create a Teen Space in the Headquarters Library.

The Foundation has also raised funds to support Snuggle Up Centers at the various branch libraries.  Snuggle Up Centers are special places for adults and children to learn, grow, and spend time together.

On occasion, the Foundation has chosen to support special projects for the library district. In 2007, the we underwrote the costs of renovation of Meeting Room B at the Headquarters Library in downtown Gainesville. The room was renamed in honor of the Foundation.

The Foundation Room will better serve the needs of library staff, Trustees, the Foundation and the community. Room additions include new lighting, audio/visual system with recording equipment, conference table, and chairs.

The Foundation is a complementary organization to the Friends of the Library, and the two organizations remain in close contact to avoid duplication of projects and events.
