The Alachua County Library District (ACLD)
Foundation is a support group for the Alachua County Library District.
Incorporated in 1989 as a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation, the Foundation's mission is to
provide supplemental funding to the library with an emphasis on long-term support and
planned giving.
Although tax revenues support the library's
on-going operations--core collections,staffing and maintenance of equipment--supplemental
funding is needed to ensure the library's continual stability.
The Foundation's major goal is to build an endowment that will provide funds for the
Library District on an annual basis. However, on occasion, the Foundation has chosen
to support special projects for the library district. For example, in 2007, the
renovation of Meeting Room B at the Headquarters Library in downtown Gainesville was
underwritten by the Foundation. The room was renamed in honor of the Foundation.

The Foundation has also raised funds to support Snuggle Up
Centers at the various branch libraries. Snuggle Up Centers are special places for
adults and children to learn, grow and spend time together.

The Foundation is a complementary organization to the Friends of the Library, and the two
organizations remain in close contact to avoid duplication of projects and events.
